February 26th, 2012 12:08am by Stiff Jab Tumblr

Round 1- Jake is throwing punches, but is looking for the takedown.  Jake shoots for the single, but Akiyama is able to back against the fence.  Akiyama Turns jake around.  Jake shoots again, doesn’t get the takedown.  Jake lands a body kick.  Sexiyama is stuffing the takedowns nicely so far.  Sexiyama lands an uppercut.  Jake shoots and trips Akiyama, but Akiyama is able to get back up.  Jake hit Akiyama low,and Akiyama grimaces, but they aren’t separated.  Jake has two underhooks, but Akiyama pulls out of it.  Akiyama gets a nice takedown and a trip.

Round 2- Jake shoots and gets stuffed.  Akiyama lands a nice right.  Akiyama is going for the trip.  Spin kick.  Jake is landing punches, but they don’t have a lot of mustard on them.  Akiyama lands a spinning backfist.  Akiyama’s punches are doing much more damage.  Jake shoots and Akiyama stuffs it.  Akiyama looks much bigger than Jake Shields, which is odd because Jake had formerly fought at middleweight.  Akiyama throws a big kick and Jake catches it.   Okami lands a jab.  Jake lands an uppercut.  Akiyama lands a nice leg kick.  Akiyama with a sick trip.  Jake swings coming up and goes for a takedown.  Akiyama stuffs it and there isn’t a lot of time left in the round.  Jake’s got his back.  Is kneeing him in the butt.  Akiyama spins Jake off.

10-9 Shields.  Gilbert Melendez just told Jake he won that round.  That’s a close round and Jake’s punches clearly aren’t doing a lot of damage and his takedowns have all been stuffed, but he is very active.

Round  3- Jake is landing more of his punches, but they aren’t doing anything.  Maybe they’re scoring points.  He’s probably winning on the compubox, but there really isn’t a lot of power behind these strikes.  Akiyama lands a big uppercut.  Jake shoots and the takedown is stuffed.  Jake lands some leg kicks.  Jake shoots again and again Akiyama stuffs the takedown.  Jake takes Akiyama down for a second before he pops up.  Ref breaks them up against the fence, even though they’re working.  Akiyama is throwing bombs.  Jake finally gets the takedown and gets Akiyama’s back.  Akiyama is grabbing the fence, does it again.  Jake has his back, with a body triangle locked in and gets a guillotine, but Akiyama is able to last out the round.

I’ve got this 29-28 Shields, but that second round was close.

Judges score it 30-27 Jake Shields.
