Yoel Romero vs Rafael Cavalcante

Romero is a Cuban Olympic freestyle wrestler who won a Silver Medal in 2000. Absolutely enormous for a light heavyweight. Not too experienced, but these elite wrestlers are usually freakishly strong. Rafael “Feijao” Cavalcante looks pretty dumpy, but he is the former light heavyweight champ. Round-by-round updates after the jump:
Round 1-Romero hopping around the ring. Cavalcante throws a high kick, which misses by a mile. Cavalcante lands a stiff kick and Romero shakes his head. Cavalcante throws a superman punch which Romero ducks under.
Not a lot of action. This is like an Anderson Silva fight. Romero is not attacking at all. There’s a fucking minute left. Crow is booing. They do know this fight isn’t twelve rounds right? Big Dan takes Romero over to his corner, not sure what he is doing, but I am hoping he reminded him that he’s in a fight right now.
Boos are deafening. 10-9 Cavalcante for actually trying to attack. Romero has an interesting strategy of not even trying to win the round.
Round 2-Romero throwing some punches. Every time Feijao lands one, Romero seems to taunt him. Romero’s first strike is directly to Feijao’s ballsack. Romero faking the shot now. Feijao kicks and falls down. Romero goes for a flying knee and swarms Feijao with punches. Big shots gainst the cage. Feijao goes down and Romero continues to punish him. Romero shoots, but Feijao pops up. This fight just got exciting.
Feijao lands another kick and Romero taunts him. Feijao scores a takedown. Romero stands up. Romero lands a few by the cage. Feijao throws a kick and misses but follows it up with a spinning backf-fist that lands and knocks down Romero. Feijao swarms, lands a ton of shots on the ground and knocks out Romero while he’s on his back.
Glad to see that asshole get knocked out. Between the taunting and the dancing around he really deserved to have his lights turned out.
