Weidman v. Sakara

First legit fight for Weidman here, who is a D-1 All-American. Sakara is a pretty solid fighter with a lot of fights under his belt and some really sweet tattoos and a beard.  I usually bet on the guy with the most tattoos, but D-1 All-Americans are usually really strong and come into the cage heavy.

Round 1- Weidman’s doesn’t look like he’s found his range and is throwing punches from about a foot too far away. Nice combo by Sakara. Alessio’s cut, he must have gotten caught by a glove.

Can’t believe Weidman hasn’t shot yet. Now he is clinched and has Sakara against the cage, but he gets away. Weidman actually looks sort of skinny for a wrestler. 

Sakar is landing nice combos. Weidman shoots, has both legs, but doesn’t do anything with it. Weidman leaves his chin wide open when he swings and doesn’t seem to be able to score any takedowns. Sakara’s cut is opening up and bleeding, but he’s doing more damage so far. Weidman looks tired.

First complete round. 10-9 Sakara.

Round 2- Weidman gets the single leg and takes Sakara down. In full guard. Nice elbows by Weidman.

Stand up, Weidman lands a nice punch and moves to side control with tons of time left.  Sakara is bleeding up a storm. That cut is sick.

Weidman looks like he is going North-South but then realizes how stupid that would be and keeps beating Sakara from side control. Sakara just holds on for dear life and tries to turn, but eats a few more punches to the face for his trouble and remains on his back.

Sakara moves into half guard, and sweeps and they’re up, but Weidman takes him back down. Sakara scores a high knee to the face in the clinch.  The ref breaks it up and lets them catch their breath with a minute left.

Sakara wipes his head on the ref’s shirt. The doctor says he’s fine. Nice leg kick by Weidman. Weidman landing the jab pretty regularly, but that’s about it. Sakara lands some nice body shots.

Round 3-Sakara is landing some nice body shots. Weidman with the double leg and moves to side control.  ore elbows from the top position. That cut is open again and making a mess.

Holy shit, the ref just stood them up. That’s the worst call I’ve ever seen in my life.  Where do they get these assholes from?! You don’t stand a guy up with side control. He was working.

No matter because they’re on the ground again. Sakara continues to take punishment.

Sakara back up with thirty seconds left, but Weidman scores another takedown. His white shorts are pink by blood. Asshole ref tells him to stay busy when he stops punching for 2 seconds.
