Wanderlei Silva vs Cung Le

Appearances are deceiving as Wanderlei Silva (left) is actually four years younger than Cung Le, who is 39. But Wanderlei has had way more fights and has looked terrible lately, especially in a 26-second knockout loss to Chris Leben in his last fight.

Silva gets no credit in my book for beating Bisping. Bisping is one of those English dudes who gets way more hype than he should because the fight fans are rabid in that country. Cung Le hasn’t fought a ton recently. He’s got a really successful movie career, but in 2008 he broke Frank Shamrock’s arm with a kick. Cung Le comes out to a terrible Rihanna song, which is pretty beta. Cung Le looks like he’s been eating too much on-set catering. As Kelli McGonagill Finglass would say, he looks pretty soft.

I just inhaled a bottle of red wine and sort of have a bellyache. Going to have to switch to scotch. Prediction: Wanderlei is going to win this one just because I don’t take anyone from Strikeforce seriously, despite Nick Diaz’s recent strong showing. Round-by-round scoring after the jump:

Round 1-These fuckers are throwing wild shots already. Cung went for a spinning backfist that was pretty slick. Throwing lots of kicks. Wandy is throwing big shots as well. Cung Le lands a huge spinning backfist that really staggers Wandy and then misses with another wheel-kick. Lot of flashy martial-arts-movie-style striking from Cung Le and it’s working.

Cung Le is in control of the fight so far, stalking the axe murderer around the ring. Cung with a kick to the body. Cung with a “360 wheel-kick,” according to Joe Rogan. As a former Tae Kwon Do practitioner Rogan is well-versed in all the exotic kicks these guys throw. Cung lands a nice right, but Wanderlei is not impressed and keeps throwing. Wanderlei is starting to land some major shots and is turning this into a close-quarters brawl, which the overweight film star seem to be enjoying.

Cung won that one 10-9.

Round 2-Fighters trade with the fists and I think Cung Le got the btter of the exchange with a big right hand. Cung Le throws an axe kick which misses. Fat Cung is sucking wind like a motherfucker. Wanderlei lands a nice right hook. He should really push the pace here.

Wanderlei is moving forward and landing punches now. Wanderlei with a flurry lands a huge right hand. Gets Cung Le in a headlock and tees off with knees. Jesus. Wanderlei lands another knee, follows Cung to the ground with hammer fists and Captain Kirk stops the fight. Joe Rogan says that it is a bad stoppage and he is totally right. Can’t stop a fight with two seconds left in the round on some bullshit hammerfists.

Big win for the Axe Murderer. Great fight.  Le’s face looks messed. There’s a chunky blonde chick in his corner. Must be his wife.
