UFC on Fox 10 Live: Daron Cruickshank vs Mike Rio

Daron “The Detroit Superstar” Cruickshank vs. Mike “Wolverine” Rio up next. Cruickshank has a fantastic tan, the product of Detroit’s sunshine, no doubt. Two fighters are nicknamed Wolverine on this card. Round-by-round scoring after the jump:[[MORE]]

Round 1: One minute down and no one’s done anything. Left hand lands by Rio. The fighters tie up. Cruickshank is coming forward with punches. Leg kick by Cruickshank. Rio lands his own leg kick. Cruickshank walks into another glancing left hook. Head kick by Cruickshank is blocked. Nice spinning back kick lands for Cruickshank. Left lands for Rio again. Daron was wide open.

Big right lands for Cruickshank. Leg kick by Cruickshank. Wow. Superman left-right hand-left kick combo and Rio is rocked. That’s going to look good in slow motion. Rio grabs a leg.  Daron goes for a choke, then knees Rio in the face when he stands up. The round ends with Cruickshank landing punches on the turtled Rio.

10-9 Cruickshank.

Round 2: Cruickshank opening up a little more. Rio comes through for a takedown, but Cruickshank defends. Leg kick by Cruickshank. Cruickshank is throwing some wild kicks, but they’re missing so far. Leg kick lands for Cruickshank. Rios lands a right. Cruickshank lands a jumping, spinning back kick to the chest. Leg kick by Cruiskshank.

A pair of punches land for Daron and it looks like Rio is hurt a little bit. Right hand lands for Cruickshank. Rio comes in, but Daron pulls him down. Rio is a submission specialist, so this might not be the best plan for the Detroit Superstar. Rio is cranking a heel hook and Daron’s leg is twisted, but he’s able to step over and get out of the submission.

Rio stands and Cruickshank is on him. Wheel kick to the face and Rio may be out on his feet. Cruickshank is looking for the finish and lands a flurry of punches. Referee Herb Dean waves it off right before the round ends.
