UFC on Fox 10: Chico Camus vs Yaotzin Meza
by Dr. Octagon, J.D.
They just played a promo for UFC 166, which was last year. Nice job Fox. I’m sure they meant to hype UFC 169 in Newark, N.J., which is where I’ll be next week. Live updates after the jump:[[MORE]]
Round 1: Leg kick by Yaotzin Meza. Chico Camus throws a right and eats a right. Chico swarms, Meza shoots. The fighters clinch against the cage. Meza pulls Chico down and is in half guard looking to pass. Camus reverses and Camus is in his guard on top. Chico isn’t really doing anything with the position so far. Meza tries to sweep, but Camus remains on top. Ref stands them up with ten seconds left.
10-9 Chico, but I don’t feel very strongly about it.
Round 2: Camus comes in with a left and Meza slips. Camus on the top, but Meza sweeps and is on top of Camus now. Meza is more active on top than Camus was. The crowd is booing the lack of action. The ref stands them up even though Meza is punching. Bad stand up. Maybe that should be a rule. If the crowd boos, the ref should change the position of the fight. Seems fair. I’m sure the guy on top doesn’t care.
Camus shoots a single and completes the takedown. The crowd hasn’t started booing yet, so the ref lets them stay on the ground. Chico’s got a full mount with two minutes left. He still hasn’t done any damage. Meza tries to flip Chico, but Chico stands up and takes his back with a minute fifteen seconds remaining. Meza flips again, and Chico is back in the mount position. Meza gives up his back again. Meza tries to shake him off, and Chico obliges.
Round 3: Chico lands a jab. Chico gets the takedown and is in the guard. Meza passes guard and is in the full mount. Meza tries to push off the cage, but Chico pulls him away. Chico still has him mounted. Meza gives up his back with three minutes left and is trying to shake Chico off like he did last round. Chico gets him back down and has an arm under Meza’s chin, but Meza pulls his arm off. Meza tries to get out, but Chico remains on top. Two minutes remaining.
Chico lands a pair of elbows from the top. Meza gives up the back and Chico goes for the choke again. Meza flips Chico over and is on top of him with a minute twenty seconds left. Chico stands up. Meza has an over under, but Chico pulls him down and moves into side control then into mount again. Chico goes for the rear naked again, but the round ends.
Judges had it 29-28 (twice) and 30-27 for Camus.
