UFC on Fox 10: Benson Henderson vs Josh Thomson

Main event time for UFC on Fox 10. Former UFC lightweight champ Benson Henderson (left) versus Josh Thompson, live round-by-round scoring after the jump:[[MORE]]

Round 1: Head kick from Benson is blocked by the smirking Thompson. Right hand lands for Henderson. Thomson takes Benson down, locks in a body triangle and is on his back with four minutes left to work on a choke. Benson stands up, but still has Josh on his back. Josh steps off.

Henderson has a clinch on Thomson, but Thomson is able to stay up. Only one minute left to work. Benson works a takedown and is in the full guard, but Thomson pops up immediately. Benson has a standing arm triangle on Josh and pulls him to the ground. Josh gets out of it and slams Benson on his head as the round ends.

Round 2: Benson comes flying in with a body shot. Benson comes in with a kick to the body, but Josh grabs his leg. Thomson lets it go. The fighters clinch against the cage. Josh lands a few knees. Slow dance on the cage and referee Big John has seen enough. He breaks them up. Benson throws a kick to the body. The fighters clinch up again. Josh puts Benson down on the ground again and has his back. Body triangle locked in again. Benson stands up and Thomson gives up on it.

Henderson lands a punch to the stomach and clinches up again against the cage. Thomson throws a front kick. Thomson throws a leg kick. Henderson swarms with punches, but Thomson comes back with a few shots of his own. Thomson catches a leg, but can’t get the takedown.

10-9 Thomson, but that round was close.

Round 3: Benson lands a superman punch. He takes down Thomson and is in the guard, but Thomson gets back up. Benson takes Josh’s back. Josh stands up. Benson is on his back. Thomson’s hand is broken, according to announcer Joe Rogan.  

Benson punches the body. Josh throws a right elbow. Thompson goes for a takedown, but Benson stuffs it. Benson lands a right elbow. Josh’s corner is calling for the high kick. Benson comes in, Josh gets a hold of him and trips him, but Benson gets his leg. Benson gets on top and lands a few punches. The round ends.

10-9 Benson. This is a bummer of a fight. Thompson looks like he’s really hurting. He was looking good before he got injured too.

Round 4: Big kick from Benson caught by Josh, who returns fire with kicks of his own. Benson kicks Josh again. Leg kick from Benson. Nice takedown by Josh and he’s punching Benson Henderson with his broken hand from the top position. Benson is landing a lot of strikes from the bottom. Benson is working on getting up, but Thomson pulls him back down. Benson is able to get up and powers Thomson to the ground.

The fighters are on the fence again and Benson is kicking the back of Thomson’s legs as he works for the takedown. Josh just threw a right hook. He gets a takedown and jumps on Benson’s back with 45 seconds to work. Benson stands up and fixes his hair while Thomson mugs for the crowd when he should be working for a choke.

Amazing that Thomson is hanging with the former champ so well with a broken hand. Round 2 was close and scoring while typing is famously inaccurate, but Thomson is looking good.

Round 5: Benson lands a big right hook to the body. Big knee to the body from Benson. Leg kick from Benson. Leg punch from Benson. Leg kick from Josh. Body kick lands for Josh. Right hand lands for Josh. A pair of punches land for Benson and Thomson smiles at him. Leg kick from Thomson. Leg kick from Thomson puts Benson on his ass for a second. Big kick to the body from Benson. Head kick from Benson blocked, then another.

Thomson fakes a shot and lands a few punches. Both fighters kick. Thomson catches Benson’s leg and throws him down, gets his back, but Benson is up again. Benson is working hard to avoid the takedown. Thomson lands knees to the body. Henderson lands a big body shot.

10-9 Henderson.

I’ve got it 48-47 for Thomson, but I wasn’t too sure who won the second round. Close fight which usually means Henderson wins, because he prays more than his opponents.

Judges score it 48-47 Thompson, 48-47 Henderson, and 49-46 Henderson. Split decision for Benson Henderson.

Well there you have it. Benson Henderson wins again by a less-than-convincing decision. The judges are going to take a lot of shit for this one, it was a pretty close fight. That 49-46 card for Benson is just crazy.
