UFC 154 Recap: Dana Promises Anderson Silva vs GSP
by Dr. Octagon, J.D.
Georges St. Pierre manhandled Carlos Condit on his way to a unanimous decision at UFC 154 in Montreal on Saturday night. With the exception of a third round head kick that put him in trouble, St. Pierre controlled the fight and beat Condit up.
Johny Hendricks got leather on Martin Kampmann early and knocked him out in the first round of the co-feature. Hendrick just unloaded on Kampmann with a left and he went flying. Official time was 46 seconds into round one. Pretty much the same way Hendricks destroyed Fitch. His left hand is Hendrsonesque.
Anderson Silva told Ariel Helwani that he’s fighting St. Pierre, but St. Pierre is somewhat non-committal. UFC boss Dana White says he’s making the fight. Dana’s likely going to give both fighters a pile of money in order to stage the biggest fight in UFC history.
Hendricks should get the title shot after GSP fights Silva, but Dana says Johny’s going to fight again first. Maybe against Nick Diaz (Dana didn’t say that, but I always want to see the Diaz bros fight). It’s a stacked division and there are plenty of challengers for GSP, but middleweight is more or less cleared out.
Bottom line, St. Pierre won. We should be getting a superfight in May. I’m stoked.
