Quite an action-packed undercard. UFC on FX results after the jump:[[MORE]]
Marcus Brimage took a unanimous 29-28 decision off of Jimmy Hettes, who was walking face-first into Brimage’s punches the whole fight. That’s a pretty big upset. Hettes was considered a top prospect. Might have messed up a lot of parlays. Other than Vitor Belfort, Brimage was the biggest underdog on the card.
Lance Benoist took a unanimous 29-28 decision against Sean Pierson. After cruising for the first two rounds, Benoist caught Pierson and almost finished it. Referee Josh Rosenthal gave Pierson the benefit of the doubt and let him fight on, and Pierson weathered the storm to get to his feet.
T.J. Grant put a beating on Evan Dunham, who fought with blood streaming into his eyes from a forehead cut for the entire fight. Dunham was able to stay on his feet, but didn’t do too much damage. Grant took a unanimous decision in an exciting and bloody fight. Dunham is a warrior and kept coming forward, but T.J. Grant was the more technical striker with better head movement, and Dunham’s punches didn’t seem to have much effect. Dunham finished all three rounds on top, but didn’t do much other than bleed on Grant. Fight of the night candidate. Scores were 29-28 29-28, and 30-27 for Grant.
Vinny Magalhaes, ace BJJ player, defeated Igor Pokrajac by armbar in the second round. Igor was able to defend on the ground in the first round, but in the second Vinny was too much for him. He locked in an armbar and flipped Igor in the same movement. Big John stopped the fight almost immediately, but from the look on Igor’s face, he might have broken the arm in the second before Big John jumped in. Great to see one of the best grapplers on the planet back in the UFC after an ugly M-1 contract dispute.
