Melvin Guillard and Donald Cerrone are good friends and former sparring partners. Word on the street is that Cerrone generally got the better of Melvin when they sparred. Cerrone is definitely the more well-rounded fighter. Melvin likes to fight recklessly. He’ll come forward swinging for the fences and if Cerrone can just back up and fire back, he might be okay. But if Melvin lands, he’s got enough power to knock just about anyone out.

Cerrone has a Musclepharm logo on his cowboy hat along with a very foppish feather. This is Cerrone’s hometown so expect a partisan crowd. Cowboy asked to fight here after his last fight. Melvin missed weight and opted to give a portion of the purse to Cerrone, rather than to try and work off a few more pounds. Must have been a tough cut. Not a good start for a fight at this altitude. Live updates after the jump:[[MORE]]

Round 1: Cerrone coming forward with kicks. Melvin catches him with a huge left and Cerrone is hurt. Melvin lands a big knee. Cerrone is in trouble. Melvin with a big uppercut and an elbow. Cerrone’s got a chin on him. Melvin is swinging for the fences. Cerrone needs to shoot. Guillard with a big right. Cerrone with a left head kick, and Melvin is hurt. Cerrone lands a right hand and that’s all she wrote.

Cerrone with a vicious knockout. That’s going to be a knockout bonus, and he’s at most one fight away from the title shot. Look for Cerrone to call out Pettis here. Cerrone will fight again next week. He fought five times last week and he doesn’t give a f*$%. Nice win for the hometown crowd.

Cerrone by knockout.

Spectacular round. The fighters hug. Time for the title fight.
