UFC 150 Live: Jake Shields vs Ed Herman

Jake Shields is a vegan and a grappling beast, but doesn’t punch well. He beat Dan Henderson at this weight in Strikeforce. Jake has also been complaining about the altitude. Live updates after the jump:[[MORE]]

Round 1: Ed Herman is swinging wildly and tries to take Jake down, but Jake gets control of his head and lands a knee. Herman has Jake pushed against the fence, but Jake has turned him around. Jake has a headlock and is going for a guillotine, but lets it go. Jake works a trip, gets the takedown and is working elbows to the body. Shields has the body triangle, but lets it go and Herman has him pushed against the cage.

The fighters are locked up against the cage and there isn’t anything going on at present. Herman might just be trying to wear Jake down. Jake shoots and Ed fights the takedown off. The crowd is getting restless. Jake lands a knee to the body from the clinch as the round ends.

10-9 Shields I guess. That round sucked.

Round 2: Shields throwing kicks, but they’re not doing much. Ed ties up Jake again, but Jake works the takedown. Shields is working for kimura from side control. There is so much time left. Jake should be able to end it here. Shields is landing punishing elbows on the ginger Herman. Jake pulls Herman away from the cage so that there isn’t anything nearby to support Herman. Still two minutes left to work.

Herman rolls out and gets Jake back in his guard. Jake is working the ground and pound. Lots of short hammerfists that aren’t doing a ton of damage. Jake is trying to step through to get the mount, but is stuck in half guard. Jake is beating Ed up. Ed gets Jake back into his full guard.

Round 3: Ed is trying to keep the fight on the feet. Jake shoots and Ed sprawls. Ed lands an uppercut from the clinch. Jake is sucking wind badly. Ed just misses with a huge uppercut. Ed works a takedown, but Jake gets right back up. Jake lands a left hand, then shoots a double and works a takedown with three minutes left to work. Jake will win if he can just keep Herman on the ground here.

Jake’s in half guard and is trying to step through. He works his leg out and gets the full mount with two minutes left to work. Jake is softening Herman up, but Herman is able to hip escape and get back into full guard. One minute remaining. The crowd is booing as Jake works the ground and pound. Herman is trying to finish this fight from the bottom and Jake is cut. Crowd continues to boo.

Judges score it 29-28, 30-27, and 30-27 for Shields.
