Stiff Jab Best of 2011 Awards
by Gautham Nagesh
While putting together the budget for our end-of-the-year print edition I realized that transparency dictates we give you readers equal say in who wins our awards. Therefore I’ve attached the email I sent to our staff along with the story list, which I will publish last this month once it’s confirmed.
The names in parentheses are merely the frontrunners; if you’ve got another name you think merits inclusion simply respond via Tumblr, leave it in the comments, tweet @StiffJab or send us an email. Last call for input is on New Year’s Day. We value your arguments, so by commenting or tweeting you’re consenting to let us publish them in the magazine. Thank and Happy Holidays.
If you’re on this list it’s because you agreed to contribute something to the first annual Stiff Jab Fight Book, for which I am eternally grateful. Below is our tentative story list. The year-end awards are still open: you are a part of this thing and you deserve a chance to voice your preferences. Strictly speaking there’s no set criteria, but we take some geographic bias into account (fighters that fight or train or hail from the East Coast/Midwest)
I’m still open to additions or changes but our designer Brendan and I are working on artwork right now so we need to know how big/long this thing is going to be soon. We’re aiming to release in the first ten days of January but having grown up in the magazine business I know better than to assume anything. If you know of anyone that might be interested in adding their two cents and can write please let me know. Thanks again for doing this.
In truth it’s kind of crazy, which will make it that much better when it works out. Happy New Year.
