"Sassy" Paul Sass vs "Handsome" Matt Wiman

My wife just noticed that Stephan Bonnar is fighting Anderson Silva.

She just said, “Steven Bonnar is going to get murdered,” and asked if Anderson Silva was insulted by the matchup. I explained that Andy (and Stephan too really) were doing UFC boss Dana White a favor to save this Pay Per View.

Paul Sass has won his last four fights by submission.

Round 1: Matt Wiman kicks, Paul takes him down after catching the leg and is in the full guard.

Sass hasn’t done shit so far. I spoke too soon, Sass just landed an elbow. Sass goes for a leg lock and now Wiman is on top. Matt is trapped in an omoplata, but gets out of it. Matt is sitting up against the cage and working for a guillotine, Sass goes for an ankle lock, but ends up in a triangle. Sass pops his head out and lands some big shots on Wiman from the top position. He’s really posturing up and delivering hard strikes.

Matt Wiman has an armbar, but he’s on the bottom and doesn’t have any leverage. Somehow he’s turning around. Sass is defending well, but Wiman has it locked in. Handsome Matt Wiman by submission at 3:48 in Round 1.

Huge surprise to get a submission against Sass, perhaps Sass’ offensive BJJ is better than his defense.
