Ronda Rousey Rolls Again

Ronda Rousey didn’t mess around around with Bethe Correia in the main event of UFC 190, taking just half a minute to score a vicious knockout with her right hand.

Ronda didn’t try to grapple or anything. She simply walked forward, punching, until the unconscious Correia face-planted to the canvas. The final combination was a right to the temple and a left for good measure before Correia hit the ground. That’s a KO at 34 seconds of the first round for those of you keeping score at home.

While on paper Correia seemed like a worthy challenger, most knowledgeable fans knew the unstoppable women’s bantamweight champion was a huge favorite. Instead the fight was sold as a grudge match after Correia made some tasteless comments about Ronda’s father, who took his own life.

Despite her undefeated record, Correia is not a good fighter, unable to put away even the absolutely abysmal Jessamyn Duke. But it was really the only fight for the UFC to make, so I can’t really fault them for it. At least Ronda made it exciting as always.

Thankfully it was a quick finish in an overly-long card that really dragged at times. The UFC really need to stop putting these reality show finales on Pay Per View. The first fight was action-packed, but the second was godawful.
