Random Thoughts on UFC 157

1. I don’t think a lot of people wanted to see a Lyoto Machida-Jon Jones rematch, but after tonight’s particularly defensive performance by Machida, that fight is going to be really hard to sell.

2. Dan Henderson looked gassed after one of the most actionless 3-rounders I’ve ever seen.  He’d be wise to stay out of 5-round fights.

3. Pretty sure I’ve said this before, but it is driving me crazy that I just watched a pay per view with Josh Neer on it when Jon Fitch is out of a job. The UFC does not have enough fighters for its shows that it can afford to drop top-10 welterweights.

When I’m paying sixty bucks for a Pay Per View, I don’t want to hear how the millionaires that own the UFC don’t want to pay a Top-10 welterweight $60,000.

4. I think the Koscheck stoppage was premature, but I could see why referee Herb Dean did it on the replay. It’s never a good sign when a guy jumps up like that right after being ruled unable to continue, but most people hate Josh Koscheck, so I don’t think anyone is going to be losing any sleep over it.

5. Koscheck’s lost 3 of his last 5 fights as a welterweight and is on the tail end of his career. He better hope that UFC boss Dana White doesn’t Fitch him.

6. The Ronda Rousey fight was really exciting and way more competitive than I expected, but still ended in a first round armbar. Overall, a good night for women’s MMA.

7. Bermudez-Grice was easily the best fight I’ve seen all year.

8. Machida-Henderson was probably the worst fight I’ve seen all year, and I was really pumped for it.

9. While I’m pissed Diaz got the title shot over Hendricks, I’m still totally pumped about UFC 158.

10. Kenny Robertson’s submission was the first time that move has ever been used.

11.  If Urijah Faber is on your back, you are not getting him off, even after the fight is over.
