Pacquiao in minor car accident

This probably caused more than a few heart attacks among gamblers and Filipinos in Vegas for tonight’s big fight.

Pacquiao spokesman Fred Sternburg told ESPN.com that Pacquiao had been driven to another side of his host hotel, Mandalay Bay, to visit a ballroom for a church service. On his way back to the side of the resort where Pacquiao was staying, the car he was in stopped at a traffic signal. That is when Sternburg said Pacquiao’s car was lightly tapped by the security van trailing the car at around 1 p.m. PT.

“It was just a tap,” Sternburg said. “Manny was laughing about all the attention it was getting. They were tapped. That was it. It wasn’t like they were cruising and someone ran into him.”

Nobody was injured, according to Sternburg. No police report was filed, he said.

Trainer Freddie Roach met with Pacquiao afterward at the hotel and was satisfied he was fine.

“Manny is ready to go,” Roach said.

Ah, boxing. Nothing is ever easy. Conspiracy theorists everywhere are surely on alert.
