Live: Marco Huck vs Alexander Povetkin

A little heavyweight boxing on Saturday afternoon via EPIX, live from Germany.
Round 1-The fighters are feeling each other out. Povetkin throws a left hook that is blocked. Huck comes forward with a nice combination and ties up Povetkin. The fighters tie up again and Huck lands a nice bodyshot. Huck lands another right. Povetkin comes back with a bodyshot as the round ends.
Povetkin’s eyebrow is already swollen. Good start for Huck, who does not look intimidated by the larger fighter. The ref is already breaking balls about holding. Didn’t look that bad to me.
Round 2-Huck lands a nice jab. Povetkin is coming in, but Huck is blocking most of his punches. Povetkin is the aggressor so far this round. He’s throwing a few body shots. Huck is bleeding from the mouth. Povetkin is working the body nicely and starting to tee off.
Huck comes forward wildly, but misses. Povetkin is finding his range and starting to pick Huck apart. The ref warns Povetkin for a punch to the body that looked totally legal.
10-9 Povetkin. Looks like Dereck Chisora is ringside. I’m surprised they didn’t deport him.
Round 3-Huck comes forward, but misses. Povetkin has him on the ropes and lands a heavy right uppercut. Huck comes through with a right of his own and the fighters tie up. Povetkin comes forward with a left and Huck ties him up. Povetkin is punishing the body. Povetkin lands a nice left and Huck times him up and lands a punch in the clinch.
Huck needs to turn this into a brawl or he’s going to be shitting blood tomorrow. He can’t take bodyshots from this guy for twelve rounds. The fighters tie up and Huck lands a shot. Huck is starting to let the hands go a little more, but Povetkin won the round.
10-9 Povetkin. Huck needs to get more active.
Round 4-Huck lands and Povetkin is in trouble. Huck is swinging for the fences as Povetkin ties him up. Huck needs to push the action while Povetkin is seeing stars. He lands a right and another left, but Povetkin has his wits about him again and is pushing the offense once more.
Povetkin lands two jabs and a body punch against the ropes. Huck throws a massive overhead right and misses. Ref is telling Huck to stop holding the head down. Povetkin clearly ducked on his own and Huck should have kept punching. This ref is a joke. Povetkin keeps ducking and trying to draw the foul or something, but he deserves to take one in the back of the head if he is pulling that garbage.
Round 5-Povetkin lands a jab. Povetkin throws a hook that Huck ducks under. Povetkin throws a combination that gets blocked. Huck lands a jab. Huck’s jab is getting through and it looks like Povetkin is gassed. Povetkin leans under and eats a left hook. Huck lands another shot to the back of the head when Povetkin goes down, then another nice jab. Povetkin keeps ducking. He’s tired. If Huck can stay on his feet and keep jabbing Povetkin, he could win this one.
Round 6-Povetkin’s punches upstairs look like they are getting blocked for the most part. He should go back to the body. The fighters tie up and Huck lands again. Povetkin landed a nice uppercut. Huck comes in and Povetkin ducks again. Povetkin is pushing the action this round. Looks like he caught his breath in between rounds.
Fighters clinch and Huck lands bodyshots. They break up and Huck lands a nice left. Povetkin lands an uppercut-right hook combination. Huck just landed an overhand right and another shot to the ducking Povetkin’s head. Povetkin lands a left as the round ends.
Close round, but Povetkin threw more punches. 10-9 Povetkin. If Huck was thinking, he’d start throwing uppercuts when Povetkin ducks down. It’s right there every time.
Round 7-Povetkin on the offensive. Nice uppercut by Povetkin, followed by a right hook. Huck landed a right hook there. The fighters tie up. The ref keeps telling Huck not to punch Povetkin when he ducks down, but it is Povetkin’s fault. Huck with a great jab as Povetkin came forward.
Every time Huck has an advantage, Povetkin ducks down and the refs separate them. But Huck has been landing his overhand right and Povetkin is hurt. He’s on the ropes. Povetkin trying to stand up. Huck looks spent though, and the fighters clinch.
10-9 Huck. This fight is really close, but Povetkin looked like he was fading at the end of the last round.
Round 8-Huck with a nice jab. Povetkin lands a jab of his own. Povetkin throws a combination to the head that was blocked. He follows it up and lands a nice uppercut. He seems to have given up on the body shots. Huck is chasing, trying to land that overhand right again. If that ever lands flush, this fight is going to be over.
Povetkin pushing the action. Povetkin ducks down again. and the ref breaks them up. Huck swings for the fences and misses. Povetkin lands a straight right. Huck throws an uppercut, but it looked like it missed.
I think Povetkin gets that one, but it was close. 10-9 Povetkin.
Round 9-Povetkin throws a combination that gets blocked. Huck lands a jab and a right, Povetkin leans forward and the ref breaks them up. Broadcaster Dan Rafael is annoyed by the ref now. I’ve been annoyed by him since the first round.
Huck lands the uppercut and then another right, the fighters tie up. Huck with another uppercut and a right hook. Povetkin comes forward, everything gets blocked. Huck with another uppercut. Huck with a jab. Huck with two bodyshots in the clinch.
10-9 Huck. Povetkin is fading.
Round 10-Povetkin is pushing the action, but not a lot is landing. Huck lands a nice jab. No doubt Huck has the better jab. Huck lands an uppercut and the overhand right again. Huck throws another overhand right as Povetkin ducks. Fighters clinch, Huck lands a bodyshot and the ref separates them. Huck lands a nice right in close.
Every time these guys get near each other the ref steps in. This is ridiculous. Povetkin looks like he needs oxygen. Huck has a cut under his eye. Povetkin lands some nice leather and Huck again throws the overhand at the ducking Povetkin.
That round was close, but I’ll give it to Huck 10-9 because I think he landed the better punches.
Round 11-The fighters both aren’t landing a ton of clean punches and Povetkin looks tired. The ref splits up the fighters right before Povetkin throws an uppercut. Povetkin hanging on Huck. Povetkin with a big hook.
Huck is chasing Povetkin and the ref steps in, I have no idea why. Povetkin ducks down again after Huck scored another shot. Povetkin lands a left hook. This ref is terrible. Povetkin keeps moving forward, but he looks very tired. Povetkin doesn’t have a lot behind his punches.
Povetkin throws a punch clearly after the bell and Huck follows it up with one of his own. Jeez.
Huck 10-9. Fight’s really close.
Round 12-Povetkin comes out swinging, but Huck is blocking it. Povetkin ties him up. Huck’s right eye looks awful. Huck lands a nice jab. Huck lands a few shots from the clinch before the ever-present ref separates them. Povetkin lands a combination. Huck comes forward and Povetkin ducks down.
Huck lands a staggering right. Biggest punch of the fight. What a chin on Povetkin. Povetkin ties up Huck. Huck lands two left jabs and a right. Povetkin throws a punch as the refs separate them. Both fighters are tired. Huck lands another massive right. Povetkin ducks down. Huck with another one. Wow. Huck gets one more in after the bell.
10-9 Huck. Great fight. Huck landed some bombs, but Huck’s face looked way worse.
I scored it 116-112 for Huck.
Judges score it 114-114, 116-113, and 116-112 for the winner by majority decision Alexander Povetkin. What a robbery. Jesus Christ. 8-4 Povetkin? These German judges are terrible.
