Kevin Mitchell has bigger problems than John Murray

British lightweight contender Kevin Mitchell has been arrested for suspicion of possessing cocaine and running a marijuana farm (neither of which are legal in the UK).
From BoxingNews24.com:
Kevin Mitchell’s upcoming summer fight against John Murray is now in doubt after news surfacing earlier today of the arrest of the 26-year-old Mitchell along with his mother for suspicion of possessing Cocaine and running a cannabis farm. Mitchell (31-1, 23 KO’s) hasn’t fought since being stopped in the 3rd round a year ago in May against Michael Katsidis. However, before that knockout loss, Mitchell was considered one of the best fighters in the lightweight division.
Mitchell’s promoter Frank Warren Productions sent out a press release statement today acknowledging Mitchell’s arrest and subsequent release. Mitchell denies the charges and his next date to meet with the Dagenham Police station will take place in June. His fight with Murray is still currently scheduled to take place in the summer with a date to be given in the near future.
A promising undefeated prospect before meeting Katsidis, Mitchell appears to have found an unfortunate source of relief for the pain of his first professional loss.
Here’s hoping authorities across the pond are slightly less medieval than their American counterparts when it comes to handing out punishment, should Mitchell be found guilty of these allegations.
