K.J. Noons vs Jorge Masvidal
To my intrepid editor: I was totally sloshed last night and accidentally posted the last few fights on my personal site that no one fucking reads. Sorry bra. Please don’t fire me. (Ed’s note: No danger of that happening)
Here are my notes from the later matches:
Can’t wait until Strikeforce is gone and they get rid of these Pro-Wrestling-type entrances. Mauro says K.J. has two losses, but he actually has three according to the all-knowing Wikipedia. Buddy Clinton is going to be pissed if he is watching this.
K.J. looks like a total wuss but he’s actually a decent fighter. We’ve never seen Masvidal before, but he looks really tough, having a pretty nice beard as well as a neck tattoo. Masvidal’s last loss was in a catchweight fight at 171.5 lbs. against Paul Daley for which Daley came in overweight.
Round 1-Jumping knee from Masvidal. These guys are both really active with the striking early on. Masvidal gets off a nice knee to the head. Big jumping knee by Masvidal. Masvidal goes for the takedown and gets it.
K.J. is in a fetal position against the cage and Masvidal doesn’t look like he knows what to do. K.J. going for a Kimura and looks very calm on the ground. K.J. lets go of the arm and Masvidal gets up. K.J. is able to stand, just as Frank Shamrock says that Noons is using an effective technique for keeping him down.
Noons is bleeding badly now, but is on his feet and stalking Masvidal around the cage. Masvidal throws a left jab and as Noons ducks it and leans right into a knee to the head which rocks him badly. Noons is able to stay alive and actually manages to get up. Masvidal is chasing him around the ring trying to end the fight, but Noons is saved by the bell.
Masvidal wins that one. 10-8
Round 2-Noons moving forward really kicking the legs of Masvidal, which look badly bruised. K.J. lands a glancing uppercut and Masvidal puts his hands down. Masvidal lands a nice leg kick. Masvidal gets another takedown, but Noons pops up.
Masvidal with another takedown and is in K.J.’s guard. Jorge’s got some nice elbows working from the top. Noons’ face really looks terrible but he is still game and manages to sit up against the cage again and get back to the feet.
Noons is still coming at Masvidal hard. Masvidal shoots a single but Noons stays up. Noons gets up and Masvidal is now on his back being bled on by Noons, but not much else. Masvidal lands another big jumping knee but Noons is still on his feet. Noons’ heart is really impressive. He’s getting his ass kicked but staying pretty aggressive.
Round 3-Noons comes out with no blood on his face. We’ll see how long that lasts. Noons is throwing big punches but not really landing. Noons’ head looks disgusting on the right side. Probably swollen an inch or two out and looks really awful when the camera catches his profile.
Masvidal goes for another takedown and gets it. Frank Shamrock is talking about how takedowns effect scoring. It really doesn’t matter after Masvidal clearly won the first two rounds. Strikeforce should get someone intelligent, like Nate Diaz to call its fights. KJ with a last ditch attempt for a kimura, but he isn’t going to get it in time.
That was a good fight. Masvidal looked sharp.
