Jon Jones Is A Coward

UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones needs to hire a new PR person.

Jones is an exciting young fighter that has been fighting regularly and demolishing his opponents. But he’s gone from the guy that didn’t really seem to care that he beat the shit out of Matt Hammill and still lost to a guy who is saying shit like he is only fighting to get paid and that he doesn’t think anyone is worth fighting.  So here’s what happened.  He talked a lot of shit about former champ Lyoto Machida getting a rematch and said he didn’t want to fight Machida because he wasn’t going to make enough money from the pay per view. This was totally looking past his current fight against Dan Henderson, who recently knocked out Fedor.

So Dan Henderson got hurt with eight days to go before the fight.  Dana White tried to get a bunch of guys to fight him.  What did we learn from this?  The first thing we learned is that Alexander Gustaffson doesn’t want a title shot that bad, because I’m sure he was the first person Dana asked, even though Dana didn’t reveal it.  The second is that Jon Jones is a total bitch and won’t fight Chael Sonnen or Chris Weidman, two middleweights who were willing to fight up a weight class to get a shot at the belt. Chael is a pretty big middleweight, but Weidman is positively slender.  Weidman is sort of in limbo because Anderson Silva (the second biggest primadonna in MMA behind Jones) doesn’t want to fight him.  Anderson Silva has been the champion forever and there is a legitimate super fight against GSP that could be transformational for the sport assuming that GSP gets by Condit, so it is far more forgivable. [[MORE]]

The thing about MMA is that most of the guys don’t make a ton of money.  Jon Jones was the headliner on a pay per view card full of guys who really needed the pay checks.  A lot of those guys probably paid a ton of money to guys in their camp, their training partners, dieticians, coaches and all the sorts of things that eat into a fighter’s already small fight purse.  Chris Weidman was fighting in more or less a title eliminator against Mark Munoz and was on the microphone saying that it was great for him because he got in a full training camp for once and his pregnant wife let him sleep in another room so that he would be well rested for the fight.  Basically Jon Jones is one of the few guys getting rich off the sport and he’s too busy crashing Bentleys and signing lucrative Nike contracts to give a fuck about the guys who fight on the undercard for twenty thousand dollars or so and who are praying that they are able to win a bonus so that they can pay all their bills.

Because Jon Jones refused to take either of the easy fights that was offered to him, all these guys lost the opportunity to make money.  The people who promoted the fight, the people who were on the undercard, the people who were supposed to work the night of the fight were all out of luck.  Jones is an enormous light heavyweight.  He’s got the longest reach in the UFC and the second he decides to actually build up some calf muscles, he’s going to be too heavy for to fight at 205.  He was unwilling to fight two guys who can fight at 185, 20 pounds lighter than the weight that he cuts a ton of weight to get to.  This is some pussy ass bullshit of the highest order.  He could fight a guy who just lost to Anderson Silva or a guy who they don’t think is deserving of a shot against Anderson Silva.  Both guys are way smaller than Jones, who probably goes into the cage around 230.

Jon Jones, who is one of the most exciting fighters to watch, is looking like the bad guy compared to a guy who has already been caught with high testosterone and has been convicted of some sort of real estate related offense.  Say what you want about Chael, he runs his mouth, but he back it up.  Jones wouldn’t fight him or Chris Weidman to salvage UFC 151 and he’s bitching about fighting Machida, who is a former champ.  Who does Jones want to fight?  Maybe he could take the same route as Shogun and refuse to fight anyone but Brandon Vera.  This sort of thing makes me sick to my stomach and is terrible for the sport.  Jon Jones looks like a clown.  He was supposed to fight a wrestler with vicious overhand left.  Dana asks him to fight a much smaller wrestler without a vicious overhand right and he refuses?  For someone who is supposed to be one of the best pound for pound fighters on the planet, this is laughable.  He is either terrified of Chael or he is even dumber than his holier than thou twitter account would lead you to believe.

Stiffjab can quote scripture too:

I tell you the truth, it is hard for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven. Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God. Matthew 19:23-24

Like many fighters who quote scripture after beating a man’s ass, Jon Jones is a fucking hypocrite who is speaking about Jesus on twitter, while refusing to fight anyone who isn’t a huge pay per view draw.  Maybe Dana should have Chuck come out of retirement so Jon doesn’t have to risk a big pay check so that every other fighter on the card can get paid.

I can’t wait until this fucking dork gets knocked out. Hopefully Machida will do it on September 22nd.

Update:  Apparently Greg Jackson told him not to take the fight.  Greg Jackson trains some of the best fighters the sport, but between the “game plan” type fighters that we’ve seen basically run for the entire fight and Jones refusing to fight two guys who are way smaller than him, he is really becoming deserving of the criticism.  This sort of shit is terrible for the sport.
