John Teixeira vs Hugo Viana

Round 1: Leg kick by John Teixeira.  Fighters stand in the pocket and swing wildly.  Someone is going to get knocked out soon if they keep fighting like this.  John is cut on the nose.  It’s hard to tell who is landing in these exchanges, but one must have gotten through.  Hugo to the body.  Hugo looks like he got caught with a punch there, but circles away.  John kicks and slips.  Nice knee to the body by John from the clinch.  Hugo landed a big punch there.  Both fighters trying to end it every time they throw.

Another wild exchange.  Viana landed better.  If Teixeira ever lands that uppercut it is going to take Hugo’s head off, but he whiffed on it there.  John swings and misses and Viana has John’s back and lands a few punches.  Now has Teixeira pushed up against the cage and lands a big punch as they disengage. Teixeira lands a punch, but Hugo ties him up against the cage.  Both fighters land a few knees as the round ends.[[MORE]]

Round 2- Viana comes in and misses.  Teixeira lands a massive kick to Hugo’s face as he backs away.  Teixeira has Viana against the cage, but Hugo turns him around.  Fighters separate.  Teixiera whiffs on the uppercut, but lands a left and gets a takedown, but Hugo is sitting on the cage and is able to get up and prss Teixeira against the cage. Not a lot of action here.  The ref appropriately separates them. Viana throws bombs, but they don’t seem to land as Teixeira knees the body.  Head kick by John.  Misses the uppercut again.  Viana lands a big left, but looks hurt by a knee to the body from Teixeira.  Nice head kick by Teixeira.

Round 3- Leg kick by Teixeira.  Nice jab by Teixeira.  Viana lands a jab of his own.  Nice right hook by Viana.  Nice left by Viana as he gets kicked in the cock hard. Front kick by John whiffs.  Nice jab by Viana.  Teixeira lands a left and goes in for a takedown.  Viana defends nicely.  Left hook by Viana. Viana lands a nice hook to the body.  Viana looks hurt and is retreating.  Teixeira locks him up as Viana holds on to the cage to avoid the takedown.  Viana gets back up.

I score it 29-28 Teixeira, but that first round could have gone either way.

Judges score it 29-28 Viana x2 and one judge with 29-28 Teixeira.  Viana by split decision. 

That first round was tough to score.  Could have gone either way.
