Washington, D.C. super middleweight Jerry “2 Tickets 2 Paradise” Odom (14–2–1, 13 KOs) scored the biggest win of his career, brutally knocking out Julius Jackson (19–2, 15 KOs) in the third round of their eight round contest at the Foxwoods Resort Casino in Mashantucket, Connecticut. The bout was part of a special 15th anniversary edition of ShoBox.

Odom, the 2012 National Golden Gloves Champion, had fallen on hard times recently, going 1–2–1 in his previous four fights heading into the bout with Jackson. He took this fight on short notice. Jackson’s original opponent was Ronald Ellis (12–0–1, 10 KOs), who fought to a draw with Odom on a ShoBox telecast in February. Ellis pulled out of the fight with Jackson due to an injury to his right hand.

The first two rounds were very evenly fought, with both fighters having pockets of success implementing their respective game plans. Jackson landed numerous sharp jabs and combinations on the outside.  When he was able to get inside, Odom did some good body work and connected with shots over the jab of the taller Jackson.

In the third round, Jackson’s chin betrayed him much the same way it used to betray his father Julian “The Hawk” Jackson, one of the hardest punchers in boxing history. Odom connected with an overhand right hand that caught Jackson flush on the chin. Jackson went down in a heap and referee Arthur Mercante Jr waved the fight off at the 1:57 mark.

This win gets Odom back on track, and will likely land him another television fight in the near future. It was Odom’s fifth appearance on ShoBox and hopefully another win or two like tonight will elevate him from prospect to contender and transition him from ShoBox to Showtime Championship Boxing in his first ten round fight. We hope Odom can fulfill the massive potential that we have seen in him since his amateur days.
