Jean Pascal Update

We just caught up with former light heavyweight champ Jean Pascal (left with Sugar Ray Leonard) at the MGM Grand. Pascal is still searching for a foe in his first fight since losing his Ring belt in a rematch with Bernard Hopkins. One prospective opponent is Kazakh alphabet titlist Beibut Shumenov, who Pascal called out after his last fight. But Pascal told Stiff Jab the two sides haven’t been able to agree on a venue.

“He’s crazy, he wants me to go to Kazakhstan,” Pascal said, adding that he’s willing to take the fight in Vegas or his native Montreal. Another possible foe is IBF beltholder Tavoris Cloud, but in that case money is the main holdup.

“Cloud wants to fight but his promoter Don King is asking for too much,” Pascal said. Regardless, Pascal is determined to get back in the ring before the end of the year. In top-heavy division we hope he gets his wish.
