Holly Holm Struggles Against Opponent Hand-Picked to Make Her Look Good

Holly Holm looked awful winning a split decision against Raquel Pennington.

Pennington was guaranteed to stand and bang with Holm, who has excellent boxing credentials. Holm has no power and did absolutely no damage in the three rounds that Pennington stood and banged with her. We saw Holm winning, but this fight was godawful and had no business being the co-main event on a Pay Per View. I knew this was going to be a bad card going into this, but was surprised at just how bad this fight was.

Holm is a point fighter, which isn’t going to translate well into MMA because the judges always get the decision wrong. Also, the first time Holm gets in the cage with someone who is willing to put her on her back, she’s probably going to lose. She’s not a viable opponent for Ronda Rousey and probably never will be.

That said, if a fight between Rousey and the former juicer Cris Cyborg can’t be made, there really isn’t a single viable fight for Rousey should she get through Cat Zingano easily in the main event tonight, as many expect. I’m hoping Zingano will put up a good fight. Here we go.
