Holly Holm Knocks Out Ronda Rousey

Holly Holm showed much improved MMA striking and made Ronda Rousey look like an amateur, knocking her out brutally with a head kick early in the second round of their bantamweight title fight in the main event of UFC 193.

Holm did not look like the fighter who fought to a decision against subpar competition in her first two fights in the UFC. Ronda was basically chasing Holly around the ring swinging at nothing while getting popped in the face. You really have to question Rousey’s game plan to stand up against a boxer. That sort of wild haymaker bullshit doesn’t really work when you’re facing someone with good footwork.

I honestly thought that this was going to be another takedown-armbar-first round special. I should have known that Jackson’s team is smarter than that. This was a massive upset for Holly Holm. It’s good to see a new bantamweight champ. Hopefully it will create some drama in the division. This was a really exciting fight. Maybe Ronda will get a new coach, as her mother has been pushing for vocally.

People are already calling for a rematch. Not sure it would go much differently, but we’d still pay to see it.
