Heavyweight Champ Wladimir Klitschko Puts A Ring On It

In April, Hayden Panettiere was spotted wearing an enormous diamond ring, but neither she nor her heavyweight champ Wladimir Klitschko were ready to announce, confirm, or deny whether they were affianced.
Yesterday, the ‘Nashville’ star appeared on ‘Live with Kelly & Michael’ and Kelly Ripa persuaded her to comment on her choice of jewelry. The actress replied, “I think it speaks for itself,” before unambiguously revealing that yes, she was engaged to Wladimir “The Pusher” Klitschko, and no date had been set for a wedding.[[MORE]]
Among the dozens of outlets covering this major news story, The Daily Mail deserves a bit of recognition for “best headline” since they were one of the few to reference boxing in their title: “It’s not on the ropes any more! Klitschko to marry Panettiere after actress flashes engagement ring”.
I deserve a slightly larger morsel of credit for not mentioning how how tall either of them is, because every article I read (okay, the three I perused) made lavish mention of the obvious disparity in their respective heights.
I thought that journalists would be over this initially amusing detail of the Panettiere-Klitschko match-up, but nope, everyone still feels the need to point it out…even though they’ve been dating on and off since 2009. And when I say “on and off”, I mean it– Panettiere reportedly had an 18-month relationship with NFL player Scotty McKnight somewhere in the middle of all of that breaking up and making up. She and her pushy fiancé reunited earlier this year and she started flashing the blingy ring this spring.
No one knows anything about the ring, but fret not, that’s what E! online is for—they keep experts like Chris Capri of Capri jewelers on retainer for crises like this.
He estimates the diamond is around 6 carats and the ring is worth approximately $500,000.
Although the brand is unknown, Chris easily narrowed down other specifics, like cut and setting. “The diamond is an emerald cut, which automatically requires a very high clarity grade,” Chris explains. “The ring looks to be rose gold with a split-shank setting.”
Nifty. I’m sure all of you fight fans were curious about Wladimir’s taste in concentrated carbon. And now, back to our usually scheduled programming of controlled violence, snark, and the excellent wordsmithing of our Sarah Deming.
