Gervonta Davis vs Desi Williams

With Adrien Broner as his hype man and potential style adviser, a national Golden Gloves Championship under his belt, and just a few miles between D.C. and his hometown of Baltimore, Gervonta “Tank” Davis (left) had all the ingredients for a big pro debut. He delivered without much effort required, dispatching the 0 and 4 Desi Williams in just 89 seconds.

It was a soft counter left hook that put Williams down first - a gentle breeze of a blow that seemed to even surprise Davis with its effectiveness. About 45 seconds later, a few sharper blows gave Davis an easy first knockout win in the featherweight division.

Just 18 years old, Davis is one of the brightest prospects in the region. He’s from Charm City, but well-known in D.C., and hopefully he’ll be fighting down here frequently in the coming years.
