Gegald Mousasi vs Ovince St. Preux
by Dr Octagon, J.D.
Light heavyweight Ovince St. Preux is a monstrous former Tennessee football player that walks around at 240 lbs. Gegard Mousasi is the former light heavyweight champion. He’s not a great wrestler as we saw in his fight against King Mo, so he could have trouble with such a strong opponent. Round-by-round updates after the jump:
Round 1-St. Preux kicks and Mousasi catches his leg. Mousasi with leg kicks to the front leg. OSP is throwing some wild kicks. Not sure he wants to kickbox with a dude from the Netherlands, where many of the world’s sharpest kickboxers train. GM is looking way way better in the boxing. If OSP doesn’t get this fight to the ground he will have no more than a puncher’s chance.
Mousasi is chasing St. Preux around the ring and bullying him. OSP throws a kick, which Gegard catches and throws OSP to the ground. Three minutes left. Lots of time to work. Mousasi is landing a ton of shots. OSP does not know how to defend properly on his back and is really getting beat up here. Mousasi has a crucifix position and is murdering St. Preux, who tries to get up but is dumped back to the ground.
Gegard is trying to catch a Kimura, but OSP is able to roll out of it and has top position with 45 seconds left. Mousasi flips him back over and beats OSP up some more from the crucifix, landing a ton of punches to the head as the round ends.
10-9 Gegard. He looked really sharp there. OSP got messed up. It will take a really lucky break for OSP to win the fight. He looks totally outclassed on both the ground and in the standup. Mousasi landed 70 strikes to two by St. Preux. Might turn into a 10-8 round on some cards.
Round 2-St. Preux shoots. Mousasi dumps him on the ground easily. Mousasi landing a lot of shots from the top. Ref is saying he’s going to stand them up despite the fact GM is landing a ton of shots. Sure sign of a terrible ref.
HE STANDS THEM UP!!!!!!! OH MY GOD. FIRE THE REF RIGHT NOW. THAT WAS THE DUMBEST SHIT I’VE EVER SEEN. MOUSASI WAS LANDING A TON OF PUNCHES FROM TOP POSITION AND GOT STOOD UP.
OSP lands a knee, best shot he landed all fight and ends up on top. Mousasi is more experienced on the ground and takes far less damage than OSP took. GM is able to stand up. OSP shoots and is stuffed.
Round 3-Fighters clinch against the cage. Mousasi gets the takedown, but OSP stands up after taking a few shots. OSP back up and gets a takedown. He has Mousasi in a tough spot. Crucifix position against the cage, OSP gets a full mount, but Mousasi forces him out of it. OSP with full mount again, but he’s getting up too high and Mousasi bucks out of it again.
Mousasi on his feet, gets the double leg and gets a takedown. He’s on OSP’s back. They get up and Mousasi takes OSP down on top of him, but manages to get back on top of OSP again. Ref is already threatening to stand them up again. He really does not like it when they are on the ground for more than 10 seconds.
Mousasi now has pulled OSP away from the cage and is throwing punches from the top. GM goes for a submission, but OSP gets out of it and Mousasi is on his back. OSP lands a good shot. OSP on top now with thirty seconds left in a fight that he needs to finish. GM is turtled and OSP is going for a D'arce choke.
10-9 Mousasi. Even when OSP was on the top he didn’t do shit.
Judges have it 29-28 to Mousasi. Thank god he won. That standup in the second really fucked him. Mousasi says he was sick. He still looked like he was in pretty good shape.
