Frankie Edgar vs Jose Aldo

Frankie Edgar is coming off a pair of close losses to lightweight champ Benson Henderson.

He won the second fight, as anyone but the terrible judges could see. Now Edgar’s going down a class to fight Jose Aldo, who is still bigger than him. It will be interesting watching Edgar fight someone close to his size.

Edgar’s friend JWoww is cageside. Aldo comes out to a Rihanna song. I don’t know how this sort of music gets you pumped up to kick ass, but to each his own. Aldo is a killer and has crushed everyone in his path since 2006. I’m totally psyched for this fight.Tough matchup for Frankie, as he doesn’t deal well with leg kicks, and Aldo kicks legs better than just about anyone. Round 1- Frankie lands a leg kick. Aldo throws a left. Aldo rips a big kick. Jab by Aldo. Aldo looks so much bigger than Franke now that he’s rehydrated. Aldo lunges forward with a left. Edgar comes forward, but doesn’t land. Leg kick by Frankie. Uppercut by Aldo. Frankie walks through it. Jab by Aldo. Jab by Aldo. Jab by Aldo. Head kick by Frankie. Straight right by Aldo. Another. Jab by Aldo . Jab by Aldo. Frankie landed a right. Jab by Aldo. Frankie chasing Aldo around the cage, but he remains elusive. Jab by Aldo. Right by Aldo. Jab by Aldo. Jab by Aldo. 10-9 Aldo. Frankie got beat up in the first round, but that seems to be the way all his fights go. Hopefully he makes an adjustment.

Round 2- Edgar comes forward and eats a left and a right, but hes’ chasing Aldo around the cage at least. Edgar’s eye is looking bad. Big right from Aldo. Frankie tries for a single, but it is stuffed. Frankie with a kick to the body. Frankie comes forward and eats some more fists. Frankie shoots a single, but Aldo jumps out of it. Big leg kick from Aldo wobbles Edgar, whose leg looks terrible. Jabs from Aldo. Leg kick from Aldo takes Edgar down. That lead leg is fucked. Edgar lands a left hand. Aldo lands another leg kick. Edgar still ocming forward. Right by Frankie. Right by Frankie. Frankie misses a front kick. Frankie having some success now pressuring the champ and pushing him against the fence. Aldo threw a flying knee before that, but I couldn’t tell if it landed because of the angle. Edgar headhunting with a kick and whiffs. Leg kick from aldo and Edgar takes him down with a punch, but Aldo gets right back up. Edgar coming forward eating jabs. Aldo throws a wild spinning back kick.

Round 3- Edgar shoots and Aldo stuffs it. Leg kick by Frankie. Head kick by Frankie misses. Frankie pushing forward. right hand lands for Edgar. Edgar chasing the champ around the ring now. Pushing the action. Frankie eats a front kick. Nose probably broken. As per usual, he doesn’t seem to care. Frankie comes forward and eats a hook. Frankie lands a hook to the body. Frankie eats a jab. Body kick by Frankie. Frankie lands a shot to the body. Frankie is pushing the action, but not doing a ton of damage. Frankie’s face is fucked. Leg kick by Frankie. Another. Another. Left hook by Aldo. Pair of punches by Frankie. Frankie eats a knee and catches it and returns a punch. Pair of huge punches by Frankie. big right by Frankie. Coming on strong. Leg kikc by the champ. Frankie shoots and Aldo throws him off. right by Frankie. Leg kick by Frankie. Leg kick by Frankie. jab by Aldo. Body kick by both fighters.

Damn that was a close round. 10-9 Aldo I guess, but I’d like to watch that one again.

Round 4- Frankie landing leg kicks. Frankie with a right hand. Leg kick by Frankie. Leg kick by Frankie. spinning back kick by Aldo. Leg kick by Aldo and Frankie tags him with a left. Frankie comes forward with a high kick. rankie pushing forward. Frankie pressing forward with the jab, but the champ just backs away. Aldo seems to be coasting on his points lead. Not working too hard. Frankie goes for a takedown and gets stuffed, but lands some punches. Frankie lands a left. Aldo eats a left hook. Frankie lands a pair of punches. Body kick by Edgar. Aldo swings and misses. Edgar shoots again and slams Aldo, but he gets back up. Frankie has his back. Frankie is kneeing him in the back with a minute and a half left. Working for a trip. Pulling the champ away from the cage and separates. Leg kick by Frankie. Frankie lands a right. Frankie coming forward. His eye is fucked bad.

Round 5- Frankie eats a jab. Frankie gets his eye poked, but whatever, it’s almost too closed for a finger to fit in. Aldo working the jab. Throwing a flying knee. Jab by Aldo. Fankie shooting, stuffed. Franki lands a right. Frankie coming forward, Aldo retreating. Spinning back kick from Frankie. Frankie lands a right. Edgar chasing Aldo, eats a jab. Frankie shoots and eats a punch. Frankie lands an uppercut. Leg kick from frankie. Leg kick from Frankie. Aldo with a right hook. Frankie is pushing the action. Aldo is just trying to ride this one out. Frankie grabs Aldo and lands a knee. Farnkie comes forward with a combination. One and a half minutes left. Leg kic by Frankie. Right hook by Frankie, but he eats one as well. Frankie landing jabs. One minute to go. Pair of punches by Edgar. fighters exchange. Frankie is pushing the pace and Aldo is looking at the clock. Head kick from Edgar. Leg kick from Edgar. Leg kick from Edgar. Edgar is landing punches. Frankie lands a right. Superman punch off the cage to finish the round for Aldo.

Holy shit. This is going to be another controversial decision no matter what happens, but I’m not sure Frankie is going to win the fight with his face looking like that. face damage is a scoring category, but it definitely colors their opinion. He got screwed on the last decision. Edgar is classy in defeat as always. No beef with the judges on this one. The third and the fifth were close. Great fight. Edgar should teach Rashad how to have some heart. I think Rashad is going to pack it in. He looked like he doesn’t want to fight anymore. Sort of gunshy, like in the last few rounds against Jon Jones.
