Frankie Edgar vs Benson Henderson

Benson Henderson is way bigger than the champ, who doesn’t really cut a lot of weight.

Round 1-Frankie Edgar with a nice leg kick. Henderson kicks and Frankie catches the leg. Henderson throws a kick with his other leg, but Frankie ducks it. Henderson kicks and Frankie blocks it. Frankie throws Henderson on the ground, but Henderson pops up. Benson keeps kicking and the last one went low. Frankie darting in with punches.

Benson kicks and Frankie catches the leg again and lands some punches. Frankie lands a nice left. Benson landed a kick there. Benson landed a left going in. Frankie catches another kick and then shoots the double. Benson throws another kick, lands a big knee. Frankie lands a nice right. Frankie throws a spinning kick and Benson tries to take him down, but Frankie tosses him.

10-9 Henderson.

Round 2-Frankie catches another kick. Frankie and Ben both landed shots there. Frankie staying active, throwing a legkick. Frankie caught another kick and the fighters exchange blows. Frankie pushes Ben up against the cage and eats a knee. Ben connects with a knee. Frankie misses with a spinning back fist. Benson comes in with a kick. Frankie lands a right. Ben checks a leg kick. Frankie with a nice left hook.

Frankie shoots and gets takedown. He goes for a guillotine from the front and Henderson gets out. Ben misses a head kick. Frankie just ate a kick to the face. Frankie lands a right. Benson lands a right. Frankie scores another takedown and is in Ben’s guard. Nice elbows.

Ben lands a big upkick and goes into a choke, landing shots to the body as the round ends. The kick was the biggest shot of the fight by far. Frankie is bleeding horribly from the nose and the eye is cut badly.

Ugh. Frankie’s nose is totally shattered.

10-9 Henderson.

Round 3-Frankie lands a nice right. Frankie shoots and lands a right. Frankie shoots but doesn’t score the takedown. Ben kicks, but Frankie lands a right. Frankie lands a nice right. Frankie kicks, falls, and eats a shot to the face, but Frankie fights up. He’s put back down on his back by Henderson and he’s bleeding badly.

Frankie is back up. Frankie lands a big right and is still coming forward. He’s landing good shots, but his face looks awful. Frankie eats another kick, but he stays up. Frankie goes for the takedown but Henderson stays up. Henderson is throwing wild strikes, he’s not worried about the takedown. Frankie gets another takedown as the round ends.

10-9 Henderson.

Round 4-Frankie with the leg kick. Henderson kicks, Frankie punches. Henderson lands a jab. Frankie lands two nice shots that cause Henderson to rearrange his hair. Henderson with another low blow. Frankie gets to take a breather.

Frankie lands a right. Frankie lands another right. Benson comes in and misses with an uppercut. Frankie is landing the right, it just doesn’t seem to be bothering Henderson. Frankie gets a takedown, but falls into a deep guillotine and now has top control. Frankie goes for Henderson’s back, but he lets go. Frankie catches another kick. Henderson lands a knee as they disengage. Frankie lands the right. Frankie goes for the takedown and eats a kick as he gets up.

Round 5-Edgar lands the right. Edgar lands the leg kick. Frankie lands the right. Frankie catches the kick. Frankie lands a right, Ben lands a left. Frankie lands an uppercut. Frankie lands a huge left. Henderson has a great chin.

Frankie lands another right. He dumps Henderson and takes his back. Both fighters land big shots. Frankie is landing a lot. Frankie throws a kick and slips. Frankie lands a left. Frankie just dropped Ben with a right.

Ben lands a huge kick as he stands up. Edgar lands a left. Edgar catches another kick and lands some punches. Frankie shoots and then throws a kick. Frankie eats a knee as he goes for the takedown. Benson lands a shot as the round ends.

The judges score it 49-46 48-47 and 49-46 for Benson Henderson, the new lightweight champion.
