MMAFighting.com reports that Frankie Edgar is going to get a shot at getting his belt back after refusing to go down and fight Aldo, which I think was a good move for him.  I think that this rematch makes sense because prior to his spectacular kick knockout of Joe Lauzon, Anthony Pettis (the last guy to beat Benson Henderson) looked like shit in the UFC.  He really didn’t look like a guy who deserved a title shot, having dropped a fight to Clay Guida and then winning a really tight split decision against Jeremy Stephens.

I was hoping that Edgar’s loss would give the UFC an excuse let him go over to Strikeforce for one fight against Melendez, but I wasn’t expecting that to happen.  It sounds like Dana is pissed at the guys running Strikeforce, so you can expect to see him poaching all their fighters until all they have left are a bunch of neo-nazi sex offenders, Josh Barnett and the women’s bantamweight division.

I suspect that the UFC brass have decided that the next title shot will go to the winner of Diaz-Miller.  I’m an unabashed fan of the Diaz bros, so I’m hoping Nate wins this one.  If he does beat Miller, who is just as slick on the ground as he is, he will have as good a claim to the title shot as anyone, having previously put an astonishing end to Donald Cerrone’s hot streak.  Miller is the sort of guy who Diaz has trouble with, a very strong wrestler, but Diaz has looked great recently since he dropped back down to lightweight and if he can keep it on the feet he has a great shot at winning it via his world-famous volume punching.  Anyway, that fight’s not happening until May so if it is the winner of that fight who is getting the title shot, it makes sense to pencil in a rematch for the summer.  Let’s just hope it ends decisively so this division doesn’t get clogged up with another trilogy.
