Frank Mir vs Josh Barnett

Last time heavyweights Frank Mir and Josh Barnett were on the same card was UFC 36. MMA senior circuit right here. They aren’t touching gloves, thanks to decades of animosity.

Round 1: Barnett goes after it and grabs Mir’s head. Both fighters are clinched up and swinging wildly. Barnett is getting some great knees to the body in already. Frank seems content to have his back against the cage. I thought he would have learned his lesson after the Shane Carwin fight.

Barnett lands a bunch of uppercuts, then a ton of knees. Frank is getting his ass beat. He needs to get out of there. Knee to the head from Barnett and Frank Mir goes down. The ref waves it off; Mir pops right back up and protests the decision. Mir looks pissed, but gives Barnett a fist bump. Good sportsmanship.

Can’t wait to see how many strikes were thrown. That knee looked really bad the first time around, but after watching the replay, I think it might have been that Mir just was off-balance and leaning when the knee took him down to the ground.

Barnett picked up Joe Rogan.  Sort of a bummer of an ending.  I was hoping to see some high level heavyweight grappling, but maybe they can have a rematch.
