Frank Mir KOs Bigfoot Early
It was a good night for underdogs with a record-breaking ten underdogs winning. Outrageous. Apparently the heat in the arena is getting close to 100?!?! We’ve got some sweaty fighters in here.
Antonio Silva vs. Frank Mir- Here we are with a fight between a pair of older TRT users. Hard to say how either man is going to look. Bigfoot’s arms look really thin. Not sure if they’ve always looked like that, or if it’s just his giant body, but wow. The story on Bigfoot is pretty well known, giant fucking head, moves slow as hell, but if you stand in front of him, he can fuck just about anyone up. Mir’s lost his last four and really has not looked good in any of them, but he’s super dangerous on the ground.
Frank Mir landed a left hook early on and Bigfoot went down, at which point Mir followed it up on the ground for a quick first round finish. Bigfoot didn’t even have a chance to get his plodding offense working. Good to see Mir back in action.
Michael Johnson def. Edson Barboza via unanimous decision (29-28, 30-27 x2)-
Johnson looked great and fought a smart fight, pressuring Barboza enough that
he had trouble getting off his ridiculously painful-looking kicks.
Sam Alvey def. Cezar Ferreira via first-round KO (3:34)- Alvey landed one punch
and that was all it took. Ferreira’s chin is just plain terrible.
He’s going to need to improve his defense if he doesn’t want to get put
to sleep every other fight.
Adriano Martins def. Rustam Khabilov via split decision (29-28, 28-29, 29-28)- Tight fight, but I think Martins did enough to win it.
Frankie Saenz def. Iuri Alcantara via unanimous decision (30-27 x2, 29-28)-Iuri didn’t come with his A game and Frankie Saenz made him pay for it. I thought Iuri took the first, but saw the second two for Frankie.
Santiago Ponzinibbio def. Sean Strickland via unanimous decision (30-27 x3)-
Ponzinibbio outclassed the larger Strickland for the entire fight.
Strickland didn’t do much other than land his jab frequently.
Undercard
Marion Reneau def. Jessica Andrade via submission (triangle choke) (1st, 1:54)- Andrade put down the 37 year old mom and gym teacher Marion Reneau, who slapped a triangle on Andrade to punish her for all the shit she was talking about American BJJ. Go USA!
Matt Dwyer def. William Macario via first-round KO (3:14)-This one was a superman punch knockout. Dwyer landed a few punches to the head after Macarino went down, but the fight was already over.
Mike de la Torre def. Tiago Trator via first-round TKO (2:59)- de la Torre knocked down Tiago in the first and Leon Roberts let de la Torre land a lot of shots before ending it. .
Douglas Silva de Andrade def. Cody Gibson via unanimous decision (29-28, 30-27,
29-28)
Ivan Jorge def. Josh Shockley via unanimous decision (29-28 x3)
