by Dr. Octagon, J.D.
Dustin Pague fights a ton and took this fight on short notice. This is Chico Camus’ first fight in the UFC. Bantamweights here. Ring announcer Bruce Buffer, who never fails to dress terribly, is wearing a black tux, black shirt, and purple necktie combination. Live updates after the jump:[[MORE]]
Round 1: Pague connects with a right. Camus lands a nice counterpunch. Pague kicks, Chico catches it and throws Pague to the ground. Pague landing really nice elbows from the bottom. Pague throws up the legs and sinks a nice triangle. He’s pulling down on the head. Pague landing elbows while Chico tries to get out of the triangle. Vicious elbows from the bottom. Pague is winning the round from his back right now. Chico is eating a ton of elbows. Gadzooks!
Pague finally lets the triangle go and Camus is landing some shots from the top; Pague is cut by his right eye. Pague switches over to an omoplata, but Chico is able to get out of it. Chico lands a few shots from the top as the round ends. Jeez, that round is hard to score. I think that once Chico got out of the triangle, he got in a few shots, but I’m giving it to Pague 10-9 for doing more damage that round. he had two submission attempts as well.
Round 2: Pague catches a Chico kick and takes him down. Pague is controlling the feet and is in Chico’s guard, but Chico is able to pop up. Pague eats a left jab. Page throws a left uppercut, and looks like he landed it a bit, but Chico is in the process of shooting and gets the takedown. Chico’s on top again and is working shots to the body.Pague has to be worried now. He’s been on his back for most of the fight. Chico isn’t doing a ton of damage, but he’s been on the top for a while.
Chico landed two punches and slid over into side control. Pague rotates and gets Chico back in his guard. Chico is landing a few from the top position. Pague has worked his way to the cage, but has not yet been able to sit up on it as Camus pops him a few more times. Pague lands a nice elbow. Crowd is getting restless. Camus is trying to work, but he has to be careful because Pague has an active guard. Camus is landing a lot more from the top position than he landed last round. Pague works to his feet as the round ends.
Round 3: Pague has to go all out this round, because even though I think he did more damage in the first round, he was on his back the whole time and the judges do not generally look upon that favorably. So he could very easily be down two rounds to none, even though I have him winning the first.
Pague looks for the takedown, gets a body lock and has Chico’s back with a tight body triangle locked in. He’s just trying to get his hands in the right place for the rear naked choke. Chico is trying to punch from this position, but Pague is on him tight. Pague is trying to soften him up with punches, but they’re not landing that well. Three minutes left for Pague to work.
Camus turns around and is now on top in Pague’s guard. Pague just landed a nice elbow combination from his back, but Camus is still controlling him from the top. Camus is now fully mounted and landing a few shots. Now Camus has Pague’s back with 30 seconds left to work. Camus has his arm under Dustin’s chin, but isn’t able to finish the choke as the fight ends.
I have it 29-28 Camus, but wouldn’t be surprised if he didn’t win all three on the judges’ cards.
Judges score it 29-28, 30-27, and 29-28 for Chico Camus
Camus by unanimous decision. That fight wasn’t great. I’m sure the UFC is hoping for some decent fights going forward to induce folks into buy a somewhat lackluster Pay Per View card.
