Dereck Chisora vs Tyson Fury PPV Undercard

Full coverage of the undercard featuring Ashley Theophane after the jump. Sorry for the delay, we experienced some technical difficulties thanks to our friends at Tumblr:

British junior welterweight titlist Ashley Theophane recovered from a slow start and a point deduction for low blows to stop former belt-holder Jason Cook in the 10th round. The Welshman showed an admirable chin and a good deal of courage but once the Londoner began throwing his jab in the middle rounds his combinations were too precise and landed at will.

Theophane broke Cook down with body shots and left hooks, ending the fight with a heavy left to the gut followed by a tap with the right to the face on the way down. Cook was slow to his feet and looked anguished as the ref counted him out, but afterward showed admirable sportsmanship in acknowledging Theophane as the better man.

The spectacular finish will lend more credence to Ashley’s quest for a world title shot, though he doesn’t look to have the goods necessary to challenge division King Amir Khan. Still, the pairing would provide both with a hefty domestic payday and likely make for better TV than the mentioned match-up with Timothy “Headbutt” Bradley.

In televised highlights Phil Fury, cousin of headliner Tyson, was upset by Peter Vaughn in a middleweight matchup of rising prospects. Fury took his first loss after an eight-round battle that saw Vaughn land the heavier blows after coming on in the middle rounds. Fury showed plenty of technical ability and the 20-year-old should be able to learn from this defeat and continue his development.

Light middleweight Ryan Toms systematically broke down local favorite Pat McAleese over four rounds before ending the fight in brutal fashion with a series of knockdowns. A powerful southpaw, Toms overwhelmed McAleese but his technique could use some refining as he climbs the ladder. McAleese was a game brawler who unfortunately took a bit too much damage at the end as the ref was reluctant to step in and call the fight.
