Benson Henderson vs Anthony Pettis

Time for the UFC 164 main event. Can’t wait for this fight. You’ll see when they get in the cage, but UFC Lightweight champ Benson Henderson (left) is going to come into the cage way bigger than Anthony Pettis.

I’ve probably seen the showtime kick a thousand times today, and each time I see it, I get more and more psyched for it. Time to see if Benson can get the stain off his soul. He better finish it this time, because these judges are among the most terrible I’ve seen. I can’t wait to find out who the clown is that gave all three rounds to Chico Camus.They’re also giving out a ton of 10-8 scores for what didn’t look to me like particularly dominant rounds. We could see some really strange scores over the course of a five round fight unless these rounds are really clear cut.

Benson has his hair braided tonight, so he won’t have any problem with it getting in his eyes. Looks like they took the toothpick out before he got in the cage. Round 1: Benson comes forward and eats two shots from Pettis. Henderson tries for the single leg. Benson is picking up the one leg and kicking the other one, but so far Pettis is still on his feet. Benson lands a knee from the clinch and Pettis gets away. Benson shoots again. Pettis has his back against the cage and is standing on one foot again.

Benson gives up on the single and lands a punch from the clinch. Benson lands a leg kick. Pettis lands another punch. Benson is pushing Pettis against the fence. Nice gameplan from the champ. Henderson is trying for the takedown and kicking Pettis in the calf. Pettis gets free. Kick to the body by Pettis. Kick to the body by Pettis. Pettis whiffs on a high kick.

Pettis is kicking  the shit out of Benson’s right side. Pettis tries for one of those wild cartwheel kicks and ends up on his back. Benson postures up. Pettis rapidly transitions to armbar. Benson taps verbally. Didn’t even realize the fight was over at first.

Great fight. Glad to see Pettis win the championship. He’s a much more exciting fighter. They’ll have a much easier time selling Pay Per Views with him on top. Benson should be able to fight again soon. Pettis tells Sergio to get him some water.  he hometown crowd cheers him as he says he felt Benson’s arm pop. Pettis calls out Jose Aldo.

Benson says he does all things through Christ, but he’ll be back soon.
