Alistair Overeem swarmed to begin the fight, landing a knee and pushing Travis Browne against the cage. Browne responded with a leg kick, but Overeem backed him into the cage.

Browne went for a flying knee, followed by a punch. Alistair ducked and tried to lock in a guillotine choke from the front, but Browne was able to stand. Overeem then landed a knee to the body, sending Browne down to the mat. Overeem landed about a dozen punches, another knee to the body, then again more punches followed by a knee to the body.  A fourth knee appeared to force make Browne wince, but he was still alive and throwing  punches. The Hawaiian has quite a chin.

Alistair got his takedown, but Browne got up and still looked fresh.  Browne tried a front kick, then Overeem ducked a punch and shoved Browne against the cage, where he landed a pair of punches. Overeem then blocked two front kicks from Browne, who followed by whiffing on a big kick.

Yet Overeem took another kick to body by the Dutchman, followed by more front kicks. One of those massive front kicks by Browne finally landed, and sent Overeem cascading downward.  Browne sprung and landed a a pair of wild hammerfists, as referee Yamasaki waved off the fight.

The stoppage looked early to me, especially after Yamasaki let Browne eat about a thousand punches. But I like Browne, and it was great to see him come back after that ridiculous beating he took.

Of course, Mario Yamasaki remains one of the worst referees in MMA.

That’s officially a front kick-KO for the heavyweight Travis Browne. Can’t wait to see him fight again. Another great fight on the main card.
